World Athletics Prepares for Thrilling Indoor Season with Boston and New Balance Meetings

As the world of athletics eagerly anticipates the upcoming events, the sports enthusiasts are in for a treat with the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meetings. The New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 4th promises to be a captivating affair, with several star athletes set to grace the occasion.

One of the most anticipated participants is USA’s multiple world champion Noah Lyles, who will be making his sixth appearance at the prestigious event. Lyles, the equal fastest man in the world this year at 100m, made a strong start to his 2023 campaign by recording a personal best of 6.51 seconds to win the 60m in Boston. The sprinting sensation then went on to claim the 100m, 200m, and 4x100m titles at the World Athletics Championships in Budapest, becoming the first man in seven years to complete the sprint treble at a global championships.

Lyles’ remarkable achievements also include world gold medals in the 200m in 2022 and the 200m and 4x100m in 2019, as well as an Olympic bronze medal in 2021. With his consistent dominance in the 200m, the American has cemented his status as the fastest man in the world for the sixth consecutive year.

Alongside Lyles, the women’s sprints in Boston will be led by world 200m silver medalist Gabby Thomas. The American sprinter recently won the 2023 US title in a lifetime best of 21.60, making her the fourth-fastest woman in history. Thomas’ impressive performances include a gold medal in the 4x100m relay and a bronze in the individual 200m at the Tokyo Olympics.

Another notable athlete set to make his debut at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix is Britain’s 2022 world 1500m champion, Jake Wightman. After missing the 2023 season due to injury, the British runner’s appearance at the event will mark his first major race in almost 13 months, as he continues his comeback journey.

The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour calendar is set to feature more than 50 meetings, including seven Gold level events. The first of these prestigious Gold meetings will take place in Astana, Kazakhstan, on January 27th, marking the first time a World Indoor Tour Gold meeting will be held in Asia.
