The Anticipation Builds: Sprint Hurdles Stars Set to Clash at Yangtze Delta Athletics Diamond Gala
On April 27th, the world’s top sprint hurdlers will converge in Suzhou, China, for the highly anticipated Yangtze Delta Athletics Diamond Gala, part of the prestigious Wanda Diamond League series. The stage is set for a thrilling showdown as the reigning global champions in the event, including Olympic gold medalist Jasmine Camacho-Quinn, world champion Danielle Williams, and world indoor titleholder Devynne Charlton, go head-to-head.
Bahamian sensation Charlton, who has been in blistering form indoors this season, will be seeking her maiden Diamond League victory. The 27-year-old twice broke the world indoor 60m hurdles record earlier this year, first with a time of 7.67 seconds in New York, and then with a gold medal-winning performance of 7.65 seconds at the World Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
“Camacho-Quinn, the reigning Olympic champion and world silver medalist, is a seasoned Diamond League competitor, having secured no fewer than nine victories on the circuit since 2021. The Puerto Rican athlete will be aiming to add a coveted Diamond Trophy to her growing collection in 2024.”
Jamaican star Williams, who regained the world title last year, eight years after her first global gold, will also be in the mix. Between her two World Championships triumphs, she was crowned Diamond League champion in 2019, and will be eager to reclaim that crown.
The Chinese contingent will be led by World University Games silver medalist Wu Yanni, who set a personal best of 12.76 seconds last year, and will be hoping to make a strong impression on home soil.
The Suzhou/Shanghai meeting, which takes place on April 27th, will be the second of two Chinese events kicking off the 2024 Wanda Diamond League season, following the season opener in Xiamen on April 20th. Athletics enthusiasts are in for a thrilling start to the outdoor campaign as the world’s best hurdlers battle it out for early-season supremacy.
