Mu, the reigning Olympic champion, will be looking to defend her title at Hayward Field, where she set a new US record of 1:54.97 last year when the Diamond League Final took place in Eugene. Hodgkinson, the impressive British runner-up, will be aiming to clinch victory, having finished second to Mu on that occasion with a new British record of 1:55.19.
Meanwhile, Moraa, the current world champion, will be determined to assert her dominance after winning gold in Budapest with a personal best of 1:56.03. The trio have only met three times previously, with Mu emerging victorious in two of those encounters.
“This highly anticipated 800m showdown is the second major middle-distance clash announced for the Prefontaine Classic, following the news that Olympic 1500m champion Jakob Ingebrigtsen will take on world champion Josh Kerr and North American record-holder Yared Nuguse in the Bowerman mile.”
