Elite Athletes Face Off in ORLEN Copernicus Cup and Millrose Games

Renowned athletes like Diribe Welteji and Grant Fisher will compete in elite athletics events at the ORLEN Copernicus Cup and Millrose Games, promising exciting matchups and world-class performances.

Renowned Athletes Set to Clash at Prestigious Athletics Events

On February 6th, the ORLEN Copernicus Cup, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting, will take place in Torun, Poland, featuring a star-studded women’s 1500m field. Ethiopia’s Diribe Welteji, the world record holder in the mile, will face off against compatriot Freweyni Hailu and Kenya’s Beatrice Chepkoech, the world 3000m steeplechase record-holder.

Welteji, the world 1500m silver medalist, will look to build on her impressive performance at the World Athletics Road Running Championships in Riga, where she set a world record in the mile. Hailu, the world indoor 800m silver medalist, and Chepkoech, the Kenyan 1500m record-holder, will provide stiff competition in the 1500m event.

Also joining the fray are Ethiopia’s world indoor 1500m bronze medalist Hirut Meshesha and Uganda’s 2019 world 800m champion Halimah Nakaayi, making for a thrilling clash of global talent.

Just five days later, on February 11th, the Millrose Games in New York will host another exciting showdown. Multiple US record-holder Grant Fisher will take on world champion Josh Kerr of the UK in the two-mile race, a World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event.

The two-mile race is set to be paced to challenge the world indoor record of 8:03.40, with a host of other top athletes, including Joe Klecker, Cooper Teare, and Dylan Jacobs of the USA, as well as contenders from New Zealand, Australia, Britain, Japan, and Ethiopia, joining the fray.

Additionally, the men’s pole vault at the Millrose Games will feature a clash between Olympic and world medalist Chris Nilsen and North American record-holder KC Lightfoot, with several other US stars completing the field.

These upcoming events promise to deliver thrilling performances and captivating rivalries as the world’s best athletes in athletics converge on Torun and New York.
