Millrose Games to Witness Return of World 1500m Champion Josh Kerr
On February 11th, the prestigious Millrose Games, a coveted World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold event, will witness the return of Britain’s world 1500m champion, Josh Kerr. Kerr, the Olympic bronze medallist, will headline the men’s two-mile field, aiming to make a statement in this discipline.
In 2022, Kerr showcased his prowess by clocking an impressive 3:48.87 for the mile in Boston, placing him fourth on the world indoor all-time list. Now, he turns his sights to the two-mile event, hoping to emulate his previous success at The Armory in New York.
Kerr’s pedigree is undeniable, having won the 3000m at this year’s Millrose Games, his season opener, in a time of 7:33.47. This triumph was followed by his world 1500m title triumph in Budapest, further solidifying his status as a formidable athlete.
“There’s going to be a fantastic field and it will be paced at the two-mile world record. Currently, I’m in fantastic shape. I’m having an amazing fall and dealing with everything new and everything that’s exciting, amazing and also terrible about being a world champion. I’m very excited for it.”
The world indoor two-mile best is currently held by Britain’s Mo Farah, who set a time of 8:03.40 in Birmingham in 2015. Kerr is eager to challenge this record.
The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour calendar boasts more than 50 meetings, including seven Gold level events, leading up to the highly anticipated World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow. Fans can look forward to seeing other world gold medallists, such as Noah Lyles, Jake Wightman, and Gabby Thomas, compete at the New Balance Indoor Grand Prix in Boston on February 4th.
