World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24: A Crucial Olympic Qualifier
On May 4-5, the world’s top athletics talents, including multiple global gold medalists like Noah Lyles, Femke Bol, Shaunae Miller-Uibo, Steven Gardiner, and Devynne Charlton, will converge at the Thomas A. Robinson National Stadium in Nassau, Bahamas, for the World Athletics Relays.
This high-profile event holds extra significance as the main qualifying platform for the relay events at the upcoming Paris 2024 Olympic Games. The program will feature five relay disciplines:
- Women’s 4x100m and 4x400m
- Men’s 4x100m and 4x400m
- Mixed 4x400m
Each nation can field one team per event, with a maximum of eight athletes entered for each team. In the mixed 4x400m, teams can have up to six athletes (three men and three women), with a single substitution allowed after the first round.
“The top eight teams in each event will receive prize money, ranging from $40,000 for the winner to $2,000 for eighth place. An additional $50,000 prize will be awarded if a world record is broken, subject to ratification.”
The competition holds critical importance for Olympic qualification, as the top 14 teams in each event will automatically secure a place at the Paris 2024 Games. The remaining two spots will be awarded based on the top lists during the qualification period from December 31, 2022, to June 30, 2024.
