Nassau, Bahamas – The opening day of the World Athletics Relays Bahamas 24 has confirmed the first eight teams in each of the five disciplines that have qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games. This prestigious event, held from May 4-5, 2023, saw 14 teams in the women’s and men’s 4x100m, 4x400m, and the mixed 4x400m events secure their spots for the upcoming Olympics.

Teams Qualify for Paris 2024

“Three nations – France, Great Britain & Northern Ireland, and the USA – each qualified four teams for Paris, while Canada, Italy, and Poland each qualified three teams.”

The mixed 4x400m heats kicked off the session in record-breaking fashion, with eight teams finishing inside the previous championship record.

The American teams led the first round in both the women’s and men’s 4x100m events, while Ireland set a national record to top the list of women’s 4x400m qualifiers. In a thrilling men’s 4x400m battle, Botswana pipped South Africa.

Finals and Additional Qualification

The finals on Sunday will determine the prize money and Olympic lane seeding positions, while the additional round will see the top two teams in each of the three heats also qualify for the Paris 2024 Olympics. The remaining two places for each discipline will be awarded based on top lists during the qualification period, which runs from December 31, 2022, to June 30, 2024.
