Two-Time World Indoor Shot Put Champion Tom Walsh and Spanish Triple Jump Record-Holder Jordan Diaz Fortun to Headline World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold Final in Madrid

Madrid, February 23rd – The World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold final in Madrid on February 23rd will feature a star-studded lineup, with two-time world indoor shot put champion Tom Walsh and Spanish triple jump record-holder Jordan Diaz Fortun set to take center stage.

Walsh, the 2017 world champion, is a dominant force in the shot put, holding the outdoor (22.90m) and indoor (22.31m) Oceania records. He concluded 2023 with a season’s best of 22.69m, the second-best performance of his career, and kicked off his 2024 campaign with a 21.17m effort in Ostrava.

The New Zealander will be one of four athletes who have surpassed the 22-meter mark competing in Madrid. World indoor champion and South American record-holder Darlan Romani of Brazil, European indoor champion Zane Weir of Italy, and Jamaican record-holder Rajindra Campbell are all expected to provide fierce competition.

Additionally, African record-holder Chukwuebuka Enekwechi will be part of the star-studded lineup. The meeting record of 21.91m, set by Konrad Bukowiecki in 2022, could be under threat as the athletes look to fine-tune their form ahead of the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.

In the field events, Jordan Diaz Fortun will return to the scene of his Spanish indoor triple jump record. The former world U18 and U20 champion jumped 17.59m in Madrid last year, just eight months after setting a national outdoor record of 17.87m.

The World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold final in Madrid promises to be an exciting event, with these world-class athletes showcasing their skills and vying for top honors.
