Defending his Title in Glasgow

Mariano Garcia, the reigning 800m champion, will defend his title at the upcoming World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow, scheduled from March 1-3. The 26-year-old Spaniard secured his first global crown two years ago in Belgrade and followed it up with a European 800m gold medal in Munich the same year.

Joining Garcia in the men’s 800m event will be his compatriot, Mohamed Attaoui, as part of the Spanish team for the Glasgow championships.

In the women’s events, Maria Vicente is poised to showcase her exceptional form, having recently set a world-leading national record of 4,728 points in the pentathlon at the competition in Aubiere, France.

The Spanish contingent will also feature national mile record-holder Marta Perez and national champion Esther Guerrero, both competing in the women’s 1500m. Adel Mechaal, a multiple medalist at the European Indoor Championships between 2017 and 2023, and a top-five finisher at the 2018 World Indoor Championships in the 3000m, will contest the 1500m in Glasgow, accompanied by two-time world finalist Mario Garcia.

Asier Martinez, who finished fourth in the 60m hurdles in Belgrade, will look to build on that performance and make an impact in the event.
