World Athletics Announces Lineup for Seiko Golden Grand Prix in Tokyo
Tokyo, May 9, 2023 – The lineup for the upcoming Seiko Golden Grand Prix, the fourth World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting of the season, has been unveiled. Taking place in Tokyo on May 19, the event will feature a host of top international athletes, including Korea’s Woo Sanghyeok and Japan’s Nozomi Tanaka.
Woo Sanghyeok, the bronze medalist in the men’s high jump at last month’s World Indoor Championships in Glasgow, will be looking to build on his success. The Korean athlete won the title at the 2021 World Indoor Championships in Belgrade and is set to face stiff competition from the likes of Australia’s Brandon Starc, the 2018 Commonwealth Games champion and Olympic fifth-place finisher.
On the women’s side, Nozomi Tanaka will be aiming to defend her Seiko Golden Grand Prix 1500m title. The 24-year-old, who finished eighth in the 1500m at the Tokyo Olympics, the 5000m at the World Championships in Budapest, and the mile at the World Road Running Championships in Riga, will be up against her compatriot Ririka Hironaka in the 5000m event.
The meeting will also feature several other top Japanese athletes, including Asuka Terada and Masumi Aoki, who are tied at No.2 on the national all-time list for the 100m hurdles, as well as Shunsuke Izumiya and Rachid Muratake, the joint national record-holders in the 110m hurdles.
