World Athletics Champions Shine at Ostrava Golden Spike
With less than two weeks until the prestigious World Athletics Continental Tour Gold meeting in Ostrava, global gold medalists Molly Caudery and Andre De Grasse have been announced as part of the star-studded lineup.
Reigning world indoor pole vault champion Molly Caudery of Great Britain will look to continue her successful outdoor season, having won her season opener in Doha with a clearance of 4.73m. The 24-year-old will face stiff competition from Czech record-holder Amalie Svabikova, last year’s Golden Spike winner Tina Sutej, and 2016 Olympic champion Katerina Stefanidi.
Canada’s Andre De Grasse, the Olympic 200m champion, will take to the track in the 100m event, where he will go head-to-head with another Olympic gold medalist, the already announced Marcell Jacobs. They will be joined by a talented field including Trayvon Bromell, Ryiem Forde, and Reece Prescod.
A highly anticipated javelin clash has also been confirmed for the Ostrava Golden Spike, with the global gold medal trio of Neeraj Chopra, Jakub Vadlejch, and Anderson Peters set to renew their rivalry. In their most recent meeting at the Doha Diamond League, Czechia’s Olympic silver medalist Vadlejch emerged victorious with a throw of 88.38m, narrowly edging out India’s Olympic and world champion Chopra. Grenada’s two-time world gold medalist Peters finished third.
The Ostrava Golden Spike will also feature a stellar lineup of other world-class athletes, including pole vault sensation Mondo Duplantis, high jump legend Gianmarco Tamberi, sprinter Haruka Kitaguchi, and Olympic 400m champion Steven Gardiner, as well as European indoor champion Ewa Swoboda.
