Reigning Boston Marathon Champion Evans Chebet and Tanzania’s Gabriel Geay, last year’s runner-up, will return to the prestigious World Athletics Platinum Label road race on April 15th. They will face off against recent Valencia Marathon winner Sisay Lemma, making for an enthralling contest.

Chebet successfully defended his Boston title in 2022, crossing the finish line in 2:05:54. The Kenyan has won an impressive six of his last seven marathons, cementing his status as one of the sport’s dominant forces.

Lemma, the Ethiopian, arrives in Boston fresh off his victory in Valencia last month, where he clocked a blistering time of 2:01:48, making him the fourth-fastest marathoner in history. The 2021 London Marathon champion is the fastest entrant in this year’s Boston field, which boasts an impressive 20 men with sub-2:10 personal bests.

Geay, who finished second to Chebet in Boston last year, shares an identical personal best of 2:03:00 with the Kenyan, both set in Valencia. This promises to be a thrilling rematch between the two East African stars.

The field is further bolstered by a host of sub-2:05 performers, including Kenyans Joshua Belet, Ronald Korir, and Cyprian Kotut, as well as Ethiopians Haftu Teklu and Shura Kitata, the latter of whom was the runner-up in both London and New York City.
