Pole Vault Stars Set to Clash at ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Torun
On February 6th, 2024, the ORLEN Copernicus Cup in Torun, Poland, will witness an exciting showdown between three of the world’s top pole vaulters. Home favorite Piotr Lisek of Poland will take on Norway’s Sondre Guttormsen and Emmanouil Karalis of Greece, as the trio renew their rivalry from the recent European Indoor Championships in Istanbul.
At the European Indoor Championships, Guttormsen emerged victorious, while Lisek and Karalis shared the silver medal. Now, the three athletes will have the opportunity to showcase their skills once again, this time at the fourth World Athletics Indoor Tour Gold meeting of 2024.
“Lisek, a five-time global medalist, boasts a personal best of 6.02 meters, achieved in 2019. Guttormsen, a three-time NCAA champion, made a breakthrough in March when he cleared 6.00 meters to claim his second NCAA indoor title in Albuquerque. Karalis, the Greek record-holder with a best of 5.86 meters, finished fourth at the Tokyo Olympics.”
The 2024 World Athletics Indoor Tour features a total of 60 meetings, including seven Gold-level events, culminating in the World Athletics Indoor Championships in Glasgow.
