In a recent episode of the World Athletics Inside Track Podcast, World Athletics President Sebastian Coe shared his insights on innovation, records, the sport’s profile, and the upcoming Paris Olympics.
Coe, in conversation with former athletes Sanya Richards-Ross and Richard Kilty, discussed his vision for World Athletics, emphasizing the need to engage young people and remain exciting and relevant. He highlighted the organization’s innovation unit, led by former competition director Jakob Larsen, and the importance of adapting while not changing for the sake of it.
Coe expressed confidence in the depth of talent across all athletics disciplines, stating that the sport has never had such a strong roster of athletes. He also discussed efforts to raise the sport’s profile, including an upcoming Netflix documentary and opportunities for athletes to transcend the track and connect with wider audiences.

Offering advice to athletes and organizers ahead of the Paris Olympics, Coe urged athletes to maintain their usual training routines and support networks, rather than experimenting with new approaches simply because it’s an Olympic year. To organizers, he emphasized the importance of delivering the Games through the lens of the athlete, ensuring their needs are the top priority.
