The 2023-2024 Cross Country Tour Set to Thrill Athletics Enthusiasts

As the cross-country season picks up momentum, the world’s top athletes are gearing up for the highly anticipated World Athletics Cross Country Tour. This season’s calendar boasts an impressive lineup, featuring 25 fixtures from September to March, including 15 Gold level, eight Silver, and two Bronze level competitions.

The tour kicked off with the Silver and Bronze level meetings in Lidingö, Sweden, and Dublin, Ireland, respectively, and now the spotlight shifts to the first Gold event of the series – the Cross Internacional Zornotza in Amorebieta-Etxano, Spain, set to take place on October 22.

The Significance of the Cross Country Tour

The Cross Country Tour is renowned for showcasing some of the most prestigious international cross-country races, serving as a crucial part of the preparation for many athletes targeting the World Athletics Cross Country Championships in Belgrade on March 30.

After the action in Amorebieta-Etxano, the Gold series will remain in Spain before heading to the UK, USA, Italy, Belgium, Botswana, Kenya, and Portugal, offering a truly global platform for the world’s top cross-country runners.

The Tour’s Role in Qualification

The World Athletics Cross Country Tour and the cross country rankings also play a vital role in the qualification pathway for the 10,000m at global championships. The top eight men and top eight women in the cross country rankings, who are not already qualified via entry standard or world 10,000m ranking, will be automatically qualified for the Olympic Games in Paris.
