Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon to Feature Elite Entries from Olympians Almaz Ayana and Daniel Ebenyo

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon, a World Athletics Gold Label road race, is set to take place on October 15, 2023, attracting a stellar lineup of athletes. Leading the preliminary elite entries are Ethiopia’s 2016 Olympic 10,000m champion Almaz Ayana and Kenya’s world 10,000m silver medalist Daniel Ebenyo.

Ayana, a multiple world champion in the 5000m and 10,000m events, won the Delhi Half Marathon in her debut at the distance, clocking 1:07:12 in 2017. The Ethiopian athlete, who set a personal best of 1:05:30 earlier this year to win in Lisbon and finished seventh at the London Marathon, is now aiming to break the Delhi course record of 1:04:46, set by compatriot Yalemzerf Yehualaw in 2020.

“I’m very excited to run the Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon,” said Ayana. “It was here that I ran the world’s fastest half marathon debut in 2017. After giving birth and having returned among the best athletes in the world, I look forward to coming back to the streets of Delhi and trying to be better than ever.”

Ayana will face stiff competition from fellow Ethiopian Betelihem Afenigus, who has a personal best of 1:06:46, and Kenya’s Viola Chepngeno, with a best of 1:06:48.

On the men’s side, Ebenyo, who finished sixth at the World Cross Country Championships in Bathurst earlier this year, will lead the elite field. The Kenyan has a half marathon personal best of 59:04, just 11 seconds shy of the Delhi course record of 58:53, set by his compatriot. Ebenyo will be joined by fellow Kenyan runners Roncer Konga, Leonard Barsoton, Isaac Kipkemboi, and Isaiyah Lasoi, as well as Ethiopia’s Tesfahun Akalnew.

The Vedanta Delhi Half Marathon promises an exciting showdown as these world-class athletes compete for the prestigious title and course records on the streets of the Indian capital.
