Great Britain and Northern Ireland Sends Strong Squad to World Athletics Relays in Bahamas
Great Britain will be sending a talented squad of 32 athletes to the upcoming World Athletics Relays event in Nassau, Bahamas on May 4-5. The British team will be aiming to build on their success at last year’s World Championships in Budapest, where they secured medals in four out of the five relay disciplines.
“The performances in Budapest last summer were fantastic, but we know each year the other nations are working harder and harder on their relay programmes,” said UKA Olympic Head Coach Paula Dunn. “We cannot take anything for granted and we are going there with a clear aim to put us on the road to Paris.”
The women’s 4x100m and 4x400m teams will feature experienced athletes such as Kristal Ama-Awuah, Victoria Ohuruogu, and Jodie Williams, while the men’s 4x100m and 4x400m squads will be led by the likes of Zharnel Hughes, Nethaneel Mitchell-Blake, and Matthew Hudson Smith. The mixed 4x400m team will be selected from the men’s and women’s 4x400m squads.
With the Paris Olympics on the horizon, the World Athletics Relays in Bahamas will provide a crucial opportunity for the British athletes to secure qualifying places and fine-tune their performances ahead of the main event.
